Yes, I know I am terrible, not updating in such a long time, I'm really sorry! I hate to seem like I'm always complaining about the same thing, but believe me, I've had so much work this last month that I was just too tired, and also I've been busy with more personal matters... and I must say that I'm not so motivated to discuss fashion (well, not exactly fashion, but trends) because it's what I do all day, so what if I write more about other things? Though of course fashion is always present in whatever I may come up with, even if tangentially.
So anyways, the other day (or rather the other month, to be exact) I was talking to my cousin Lee, who lives in Canada, and she was asking me what I thought was going to be fashionable this spring, and I couldn't give her an answer straight away, but I started thinking in a practical way what pieces could update the wardrobe of a real working woman, someone with a normal figure, a real life, a regular job, and a limited budget. Well, of course style is very personal, but anyways...
First of all one of the essential pieces this season (and the next) is the blazer. The most stylish version is the "boyfriend" jacket, slightly oversized, which surprisingly, and against popular belief, suits well almost every figure. It works in the office, it can be casual with skinny jeans or dressy over a little black dress in the evening. Rolling up the sleeves will give the fashionable touch. There's also many cropped blazers, but maybe they're more difficult to wear and not as versatile... in any case there's definitely an emphasis on the shoulders, which will continue next winter with the 40's inspired looks.
As for pants, slouchy masculine pants are very stylish, worn cropped and rolled up. Skinny pants are still there, but if you have them you have them, if you don't maybe it's too late to start. The "harem" pants, sarouels and jodhpurs are also still going strong, but i.m.h.o. they're maybe not such a good investment, I don't think they'll have a very long fashion life (but, hey, I might be wrong!). Not much happening with skirts right now, the newest shape is the narrow pencil skirt, but I don't know, skirts are a bit boring, maybe we men should start wearing them.
Of course dresses are still very important, almost any kind of dress... as long as it's nice. There's a 20's and 30's influence, and a good idea might be finding a nice vintage piece. Another good vintage piece to invest in is a short leather jacket.
Probably "the" fashion color is "nude", which is a pretty silly name, since depending whether you are Lily Cole or Alec Wek "nude" can be anything from ivory to wenge. So well, in any case, nude. You must find the right shade though because it's a difficult color for the face, but it does look very good on some people. Marled grey (yes, just like that old sweatshirt) is also a very important color, it has that sort of sporty 80's feel to it, and it looks nice mixed with bright pastel or neon colors.
I was surprised to see that the "gladiator" sandal was still going on, not crazy about them myself. Wooden wedges are also a big thing, and anything with studs on it. I don't know if there's anything really new with bags, except for the death of the "it-bag", large soft clutches are nice, and the little Chanel type bags with the chain strap are cute, but must be worn with some irony and mixed with unexpected items. Of course if it's a real 2.55 it's super-cute.
Well, please comment on what you think is fashionable this spring, I'm sure I left plenty of things out, I'm in my dried-up brain phase.

Sí, ya sé que soy terrible, no actualizando en tanto tiempo, ¡lo siento de verdad! Odio que parezca que siempre me quejo de lo mismo, pero creedme, he tenido tanto trabajo este último mes que estaba demasiado cansado, y también he estado atendiendo asuntos personales... y debo decir que no estoy tan motivado para hablar de moda (bueno, no moda exactamente, tendencias más bien) porque es lo que hago todo el día, ¿así que qué tal si escribo más sobre otros temas? Claro que la moda siempre está presente en cualquier cosa que se me ocurra, aunque sea tangencialmente.
En todo caso, el otro día (más bien el otro mes, para ser exactos) estaba hablando con mi prima Lee, que vive en Canadá, y me preguntaba qué pensaba que iba a estar de moda esta primavera, y no supe que decirle en el momento, pero empecé a pensar de forma práctica en piezas para actualizar el vestuario de una mujer trabajadora real, alguien con una figura normal, una vida real, un trabajo corriente, y un presupuesto limitado. Claro que el estilo es una cosa muy personal, pero bueno...
Para empezar una de las piezas clave esta temporada (y a que viene) es la blazer. La versión más estilosa es la chaqueta "boyfriend", levemente "oversized", que sorprendentemente, y contra la creencia popular, favorece casi a cualquier figura. Funciona en la oficina, es informal con unos vaqueros pitillo y arreglada encima de un vestidito negro por la noche. Remangarse le dará ese toque actual. Hay también muchas blazers cortitas, pero tal vez sean más difíciles de llevar y no tan versátiles... en todo caso hay un claro énfasis en los hombros, que continuará en invierno con la inspiración años 40.
En cuanto a pantalones, los pantalones masculinos son muy estilosos, llevados cortos y con vuelta. Sigue el pitillo, pero si ya los tenéis los tenéis, y si no puede que ya sea tarde para empezar. Los pantalones morunos y jodhpurs siguen en la brecha, pero e.m.h.o. quizás no sean una muy buena inversión, no creo que les quede mucho tiempo (pero, oye, ¡puedo estar equivocado!). No hay muchas novedad en faldas ahora mismo, lo más nuevo son las faldas lápiz, pero no sé, las faldas están un poco aburridas, tal vez los chicos deberíamos empezar a llevarlas.
Por supuesto los vestidos siguen siendo muy importantes, casi cualquier tipo de vestido... mientras sea bonito. Hay una influencia de los años 20 y 30, y una buena idea puede ser encontrar uno bonito de 2ª mano. Otra pieza "vintage" en la que invertir es una cazadora de cuero.
Probablemente "el" color de moda sea el "nude", que es un nombre absurdo, ya que según seas Lily Cole o Alec Wek "nude" puede ser cualquier cosa desde marfil hasta wengé. Pues eso, nude. Hay que encontrar el tono porque es un color difícil a la cara, pero a alguna gente le queda muy bien. El gris jaspeado (si, como esa vieja sudadera) es también un color muy importante, tiene ese rollito deportivo y ochentero, y es bonito con colores pastel muy vivos o flúor.
Me sorprendió que siguiera la sandalia "gladiator", personalmente no es que me encanten. las cuñas de madera también están muy presentes, y cualquier cosa con tachuelas. No sé si hay algo muy nuevo en cuanto a bolsas, aparte de la muerte del "it-bag", las carteras grandes y blandas son bonitas, y los bolsitos tipo Chanel con cadenita son monos, aunque hay que llevarlos con cierta ironía y en mezclas inesperadas. Claro que si es un auténtico 2.55 ya es súper-mono.
Bueno, por favor comentad lo que vosotros pensáis que se lleva esta primavera, me habré dejado un montón de cosas en el tintero, estoy en mi fase cerebro reseco.
