Actually I was going to write about Lust, but some recent events got in the way so I'll write about Wrath. First of all I'd like to bring to your notice that I don't believe much in the concept of "sin", I believe in a life ethic that doesn't necessarily have much to do with the traditional concept of moral, but still, I do think that Wrath (and probably Greed) are the most harmful. Those two and the Mother of all Sins: Ignorance.
So, yes, those recent events: I guess most of you know by now, but maybe some don't so you need to be informed about this. We usually assume that the fashion world is free from physical violence (verbal violence is a whole different matter, as Joan Crawford said in "The Women": "There's a name for you ladies, bit it isn't used in high society outside of the kennel"), so I was pretty shocked to read the incident between Jack McCollough (one half of Proenza Schouler) and Kiefer Shuterland at a Met Ball after-party hosted by Rodarte designers Kate and Laura Mulleavy last week. Apparently Jack accidentaly bumped in Brooke Shields (according to the actress it was "no big deal", she fell but she blamed it on her 6-inch heels) and Kiefer (who allegedly had a couple of drink too many and was in a violent mood) butt-headed Jack, who had to undergo surgery though fortunately his nose wasn't broken. Kiefer has been officially charged with assault so now this whole thing is going to court (and if I'm not mistaken I think he's already under parole for driving under the influence of alcohol).
Well, yes, there is wrath in all this, but nothing compared to Anna Wintour's anger, according to a spokesperson she is "FURIOUS that the Met Gala got upstaged by Kiefer doing something stupid at an after-party that wasn't even part of her event. Now that's all anyone is talking about, not HER party. And she is so genuinely fond of Jack, she has supported him and Lazaro for years, she really feels they are part of the future of American fashion. So she's doubly annoyed."
Oh, and it wasn't the only casualty that night: someone stepped on the train of Natalia Vodianova's vintage Fortuny dress and ruined it. Now THAT'S something to be angry about!
Update: In spite of the first informations, a Proenza Schouler spokesperson declared recently that Jack's nose was broken in three places and had to be "reset".
En realidad iba a escribir sobre la lujuria, pero a luz de los recientes acontecimientos escribiré sobre la Ira. Ante todo me gustaría decir que no creo mucho en el concepto de "pecado", creo en una ética de vida que no tiene necesariamente que ver con la moral tradicional, pero aún así pienso que la Ira (y probablemente la Codicia) son los más dañinos. Pues sí, esos acontecimientos: supongo que casi todos lo sabéis, pero alunos quizás no y tenéis que estar informados. Damos por hecho que el mundo de la moda está libre de violencia física (la violencia verbal es otro asunto, como decía Joan Crawford en "Las Mujeres": "Hay un nombre para señoras como ustedes, pero no se usa en la alta sociedad fueras de la perrera"), así que me chocó bastante leer sobre el incidente entre Jack McCollough (la mitad de Proenza Schouler) y Kiefer Shuterland en una "after-party" ofrecida por las diseñadoras de Rodarte Kate y Laura Mulleavy después del baile del Met la semana pasada. Por lo visto Jack tropezó sin querer con Brooke Shields (según la actriz "no fué para tanto", cayó pero le echa la culpa a sus tacones de 15 centímetros) y Kiefer (que presuntamente llevaba un par de copas de más y estaba de un humor violento) le dió un cabezazo a Jack, que ha tenido que someterse a cirugía, aunque afortunademente su nariz no estaba rota. Kiefer ha sido oficialmente acusado por agresión así que ahora el asunto pasa a los tribunales (y si no me equivoco está en libertad bajo fianza por conducir bajo los efectos del alcohol).
Bueno, sí, hay ira en todo esto, pero nada compardo con el enfado de Anna Wintour, según un portavoz está "FURIOSA que la gala del Met haya sido eclipsada por Kiefer haciendo algo estúpido en una "after-party" que ni siquiera formaba aprte de su evento. Ahora todo el mundo habla de esto, no de SU fiesta. Y aprecia sinceramente a Jack, le ha apoyado a él y a Lazaro desde hace años, cree que forman parte del futuro de la moda americana. Está doblemente disgustada."
Oh, y no fue la única desgracia esa noche: alguien pisó la cola del Fortuny "vintage" de Natalia Vodianova y lo destrozó. ¡ESO sí que es para enfadarse!
Actualización: A pesar de las primeras informaciones un portavoz de Proenza Schouler ha declarado recientemente que la nariz de Jack estaba rota en tres sitios y tuvo que ser "recolocada".
