To beard or not to beard...

I finally pulled myself together to post something, though I apologize once more for my laziness and lack of comments at your blogs all your comments here are as always dearly appreciated. I have so little energy lately, it must be the mental strain of my new job, I guess...

Anyways, Lucio recently wrote about beards and how facial hair has become such a mainstream trend. If you remember a few posts ago (about plaid shirts) I had this theory about the influence of grunge and the "bear" aesthetic, and I think beards have the same origin somehow. I started growing hair on my face around the mid-90's, first just sideburns, then a goatee, and finally, when I decided I hated shaving, a full beard, which has oscillated between a light Bailey-like stubble and my actual Pilati-esque beard, though I'm sometimes tempted to grow a full long beard à la Philip Crangi, what do you think?

And what's with Brad Pitt wearing a goatee? Is the goatee coming back, or what?

Por fin saco fuerzas para escribir algo, aunque me disculpo de nuevo por mi vagancia y no dejar comentarios en vuestros blogs agradezco de corazón vuestros comentarios aquí, como siempre. Tengo tan poca energía últimamente, debe ser el desgaste mental de mi nuevo trabajo, supongo...

En todo caso, hace poco Lucio escribió sobre las barbas y como el pelo facial se ha convertido en una tendencia universal. Si recordáis hace algunos posts (sobre las camisas de cuadros) tenía esta teoría sobre la influencia del grunge y la estética "oso", y creo que las barbas tienen el mismo origen de algún modo. Yo empecé a dejarme pelo en la cara a mediados de los 90's, primero patillas, luego perilla, y finalmente, cuando decidí que odiaba afeitarme, la barba completa, que ha oscilado entre la barba de tres días tipo Bailey y mi actual barba Pilatesca, aunque a veces estoy tentado en dejarme una larga barba a la Philip Crangi ¿qué opináis?

¿Y que es esto de que Brad Pitt lleve perilla? ¿Vuelve la perilla, o qué?

This morning brought very sad news: Yves Saint Laurent died yesterday evening in Paris. He one was one the last great masters of fashion and an artist, true to his beliefs, who retired (like Balenciaga before him) when he no longer agreed with the mercantilism of the actual fashion system. He has died, but he leaves a legacy of beauty and elegance.

I know I have to excuse myself once more for this long absence, but last week was my my first week at my new job, and the one before the last one at my old job. Everything is very exciting of course, but exhausting too, so unfortunately I can't be expected to update much or visit all of your blogs as much as I would like to... but I'll do my best to be around once a week or so, I promise!

And something happy: we have tickets for Madonna's concert in Lisbon in september, Di, Haquiles and I. We never would have got the tickets without Di's help so thank you, you are an angel.

Esta mañana ha traído una triste noticia: Yves Saint Laurent falleció en París anoche. Era uno de los últimos grandes maestros de la moda y un artista, fiel a sus creencias, que se retiró (como hiciera Balenciaga en su día) cuando ya no podía estar de acuerdo con el mercantilismo del actual "fashion system". Él ha muerto, pero nos deja un legado de belleza y elegancia.

Ya sé que debo disculparme de nuevo por esta larga ausencia, pero la semana pasada fue la primera de mi nuevo trabajo, y la anterior la última del antiguo. Por supuesto todo es muy emocionante, pero a la vez agotador, así que desgraciadamente no puedo esperar poder actualizar mucho ni visitar vuestros blogs tanto como quisiera... pero haré lo que pueda por estar por aquí una vez a la semana o así, ¡lo prometo!

Y algo alegre: tenemos entradas para el concierto de Madonna en Lisboa en septiembre, Di, Haquiles y yo. Nunca hubiéramos conseguido las entradas de no ser por Di así que muchas gracias, eres un ángel.
