I bet you were thinking I was going to desert you and be another four or five months without posting, weren't you? Well, no, as you you can see. I had a terribly busy week-end, because everybody is back in town and it's like one has to meet and discuss the holidays, so it ends up in a string of lunches, dinners, Margaritas and Gin & Tonics (Hendrick's please, with a slice of cucumber)... yes, I know this sounds like something from "Answered Prayers", only a little bit more prosaic, after all this isn't New York in the 50's...

It wasn't all that frivolous, I've also been watching "Cries and Whispers" with a friend and being happy they didn't have botox back then because there's no way they could have had such richness of expression. You see the faces in close-up, the fine wrinkles around the eyes, the slightly crooked un-whitened teeth, but still these women were beautiful. Nowadays we've become so perfectionist it's artificial, there's no place left for being... human.

On saturday I also took a moment to visit the new H&M store that opened in what used to be the "Cine Avenida", one of the grand movie theaters that line the Gran Vía in Madrid. It was built in 1928 and the foyer and staircases have been preserved, but nothing is left of the auditorium itself, but because I think it was turned into a multiplex at some point in the 90's. I took the terrible picture above, sorry for the bad quality but I took it with my mobile phone without the security guards noticing. I was a bit disappointed by the store, but I must say the works were not completely finished -even the carpet looked like something temporary until they placed the real one- and they had clothes racks along the corridors. I suppose when it will be completed it will be pretty impressive.

Oh, and I am completely intrigued by the anonymous comment to my last post...

I inform to the users of this blog that throughout the next weekend Mr. Pilgrim will pay a visit to his beloved cousin Lady Patricia Connaught, a young charming and remarkably graceful woman daughter of the Count of Connaught.
The meeting will take place at Burlington Estate, a tasteful and refined mansion intensely rural and tremendously natural situated in the N.W. coast of England.
Lady Patricia will organize a tea party in the greek pavillion beside the pound circus of the garden and she will invite to may of her frienships of the British high society. She hopes that Mr. Pilgrim can find here his future fiancée to whom he could get married someday at Westmister Abbey, the royal church for coronations.
Mr. Pilgrim is charmed with the prospect.

Mr. MacRae. 2nd. speaker of Mr. Pilgrim´s office.

Momento chat on:
Momento chat off

Mr. Pilgrim´s office staff acknowledge the enormous interest arised over the happy new of the presence Mr. Pilgrim as main guest to the tea party at Burlington House gardens which will be kindly hosted by his cousin the delightful Lady Patricia Connaught.
Burlington Palace was presented by the nation to the 3th. Count of Connaught in order to celebrate Connaught´s victory over the French in Bavaria. It´s a building which suggests Palladio because of its restraint and elegance. Its most distinctive feature is the giant Doric portico just opposite of a great cour d´honneur which is flanked by two blocks perfectly symmetrical sourronded by kingly parkland where will take place the very outstanding social event.
Lady Patricia will wear for such quite an occasion a white muslin waist with an embroidered border combined with a large silk coloured skirt and a straw bonnet with white ribbons and a long red india scarf which reach her feet. On the other hand, Mr. Pilgrim will wear a slightly fine blue velvet levite and a raw velvet trausers with two fringes along the leg of the pair of trausers. He will show off a silk tie as a big loop around the collar of his shirt.
